While the top ten holds steady, the bottom of the chart sees more activity, typical for the fourth quarter of the year. Ellie Goulding blasts in at #23 with the highest debut for Delirium album track “Codes,” beating out strong entries for Justin Bieber featuring Halsey and Alessia Cara featuring Sebastian Kole. Goulding and Cara each notch a second new entry, for “Around U” and “Overdose” respectively; A Great Big World and One Direction also add a pair of charting songs, while Meghan Trainor and Grizfolk add one apiece. Sara Bareilles and Jason Mraz have the biggest-moving song with “You Matter To Me,” up forty to #59, followed by big movers for Coldplay and Goulding. There’s a lot of movement just below the top 100 that could see entry next week…if it weren’t for chart-topper Adele’s 25 slated for release on Friday, which is likely to take over several slots on the next chart.

Adele holds for a second week at #1 with “Hello,” with Carly Rae Jepsen and Sara Bareilles steady in the top three. Bareilles is also the week’s biggest mover, as “Door Number Three” jumps from its #59 debut last week into the top twenty. (Speaking of the top twenty, a notable fact: Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up And Dance” exits the top twenty this week for the first time in its 61st week on the chart). Coldplay scores the highest debut of the week with A Head Full Of Dreams lead single “Adventure Of A Lifetime,” in at #55 ahead of Lissie’s “Hero” at #62. Additional debuts include new entries from xoV, Tori Kelly, and Alessia Cara.
Unsurprisingly, Adele moves into the top spot with “Hello” after debuting at #3 last week, unseating Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Run Away With Me” after twelve weeks at the top. It’s Adele’s fourth chart-topper, following “Rolling In The Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Skyfall.” Jepsen and Sara Bareilles each move down a spot to fill out the top three. Cam moves into the top five with “Burning House,” while Andrew Ripp rebounds to a new peak of #8 for “Hole In My Heart.” While DNCE’s debut single “Cake By The Ocean” sits just outside the top ten, they nab the top debut with SWAAY EP track and likely follow-up single “Pay My Rent,” in at #47. The rest of the debuts are led by a new Waitress cut from Bareilles, a pair of Andrew Ripp debuts (and a re-entry for “Animal”), and another Carrie Underwood album track.
Adele sails in at #3 with “Hello,” the highest debut since Alabama Shakes’s “Don’t Wanna Fight” also scored a #3 debut early in the year. Troye Sivan’s “Talk Me Down” is the greatest gainer of the week, jumping 50-21. Carrie Underwood marks the next-highest new entry, as Storyteller cut “Relapse” enters at #29; new songs from One Direction and Ellie Goulding also make the top 50.
In its 23rd week at the top, Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up And Dance” sets a record for the highest number of chart weeks at #1, surpassing the previous 22-week record set by Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep.” (In the earliest days of my personal chart, Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera’s “Nobody Wants To Be Lonely” reigned for a total of 41 weeks at #1 in 2002, though only over five charts, as I was not yet compiling them on a weekly basis.) Meanwhile, Carly Rae Jepsen moves into the top ten with “E·MO·TION.”
The week’s highest debut comes from former chart-topper Martin Luke Brown, whose new song “Scars On Scars” enters at #68. New singles from Grizfolk, Demi Lovato, Hunter Hayes featuring Lady Antebellum, and Jess Glynne also enter, as does newcomer FLETCHER and a new album cut from both Kacey Musgraves and Tori Kelly.
